DIY Makeup

When in the process of building your portfolio, the last thing you want is to spend money on a bunch of makeup, let alone hiring a makeup artist. Sue shows you how you can create looks on your own simply and affordably from items you already own, using your client’s makeup, or creating a useful and diverse kit for $100. Sue is joined by ‘The Makeup Blogger’, Christina Farrell, who leads us on tutorials for each specific step in the makeup application process. Learn everything you will ever need to know to become a confident makeup artist in your studio. Tips, tricks, myths, ‘how-to’s, you name it…Sue and Christina have it covered.

Introduction
Sue challenges Christina to go to the local drug store and get a great, functional, and easy to use full service kit for you to use on a variety of clients for just $100. They break down the struggles and myths of make up, what it looks like to be your own makeup artist, their favorite and most necessary items they each have in their kits, and an introduction of each specific product.

  1. Loved this! Im due for new makeup. Going to invest in this & practice, practice practice…. The model is lovely (beautiful skin). thank you both for this tutorial.

  2. Love that you use models or all ages. This was very informative! Thank u! Not only does it give me the confidence to do my client’s hair and make up
But also do more with my own daily application 🙂 ?

  3. What would you use foundations/concealers for complexions in a different range? Thinking Tracee Ellis Ross, Beyoncé, Kerry Washington, Mindy Kaling, Alek Wek…

    1. Yes! If someone has anything wrong with their face, eyes, etc. you don’t want to transfer between clients.

  4. Regarding applying eye shadow in the crease, I’ve read that with hooded eyes it’s best to apply eye shadow above brow bone to put a shadow on the hood. Anyone have good results with this?

  5. The conventional method is to use significantly more makeup than everyday because the strobe will wash it out. However, the gorgeous makeup in this demo is less than my boudoir clients wear daily. In addition, I add lashes. Can you speak to the amount of makeup required to counteract the lighting?

    1. It’s more of the type of foundation used. Some foundations can “flashback” and cause that washed out look. You want to avoid anything with spf or titanium and zinc oxide.

  6. I know the mascara brushes work well to prevent eye to eye infections. Just wondering if it would be a better/more sanitary to use an eyeliner/lip gloss brush that can be used and then use the back of your hand as the palettes? Wondering if there is another way to not put the eye liner, concealer and lip gloss brushes directly on the clients.

    1. For eyeliner and any other pencil, take the top layer of product off by drawing on a napkin or sharpening it. Eye Shadow can be sanitized by taking a tissue and rubbing the top layer of product off then spraying with a 91% alcohol. It’s best to put product on the back of your hand or a pallette and using tools that are not stored in products like lip gloss wands. You can purchase disposable lip brushes as well.

  7. Hope I didn’t miss anything, copied and pasted from Amazon Store links to take to my local store and purchase…
